i like to think about chess, computers, philosophy, and music.

my real name is
Alfred E. Neuman...
(i was born as Norman Schmidt, but unofficially changed my name some
time ago after receiving death threats from the extreme right
computer chess
establishment)
played a lot of tournament chess as a teenager in the US, and was
an active USCF member (highest rating achieved...maybe a little less
than ~ 2000)
studied computer science and mathematics at University of
Massachusetts in the late 70's and 1980s
attended Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory of Music
during that period
worked for many years as a systems/network engineer and programmer
for several large companies in the USA
am now semi-retired, but own and operate a computer services firm in
beautiful Bruges Belgium
i'm very interested in chess, music, mathematics, science, and
computer technology
